What are the differences between PCD and CBN tools?

PCBN and PCD tools are both high-speed, high-efficiency cutting tools. The main differences are: 1. Material: PCBN tools have a hardness second only to PCD tools and can only be used to machine ferrous metals. The material has high impact strength and fracture resistance, reducing cutting impact and wear and cutting heat during finishing, enabling high efficiency, high stability, and long-life machining. Dry cutting and hard machining are possible, allowing turning to replace grinding and milling to replace grinding.
PCBN and PCD tools are both high-speed, high-efficiency cutting tools. Their differences mainly lie in the following aspects:
1. Material: PCBN tools have a hardness second only to PCD tools and can only be used to machine ferrous metals. The material has high impact strength and fracture resistance, reducing cutting impact and wear and cutting heat during finishing, enabling high-efficiency, high-stability, and long-life machining, enabling dry cutting and hard machining, replacing grinding with turning and grinding with milling. PCD tools, however, have higher hardness and can only be used to machine non-ferrous metals and non-metallic materials; they cannot machine metals containing carbon. Due to their inherent structural characteristics, they are relatively brittle and prone to chipping, but they can be used to machine materials with high surface finish and high precision requirements.
2. Application Areas: PCBN tools are mainly used for machining gray cast iron, ductile iron, various quenched and difficult-to-machine steel parts, and various powder metallurgy materials; while PCD tools are suitable for machining various die-cast aluminum alloys, magnesium aluminum alloys, brass, copper, non-metallic materials such as silicon carbide, graphite, ceramics, glass fiber, and engineering plastics.
